Jurong Bird Park

With a digital camera, a reliable umbrella (to keep us dry in case it rains) and a bottle of mineral water in my backpack - we hailed a cab to view the sight worth remembering. The augmenting eagerness of two adults was comparable to kids once we set foot on Jurong Bird Park in Singapore!

Flamingos

Black swans

The two must-see shows, Kings of the Skies and Birds n Buddie started at 10 am and 11 am sharp respectively. We came just in time for the first show. There were various visitors - mostly tourists from other Asian countries and grade school children on a field trip. We were lucky to avail the $3 off for admission (ticket price is $18 for adult and $12 for child) as tourists in this massive park which is considered the world's largest bird paradise and boasts 5,000 feathery friends across 380 species located at the Jurong Hill on our visit last March 3rd.

 Penguins

The audience were educated to avoid throwing trash in the environment, especially those that are made of plastic. Birds who happen to eat it suffer and die because it is indigestible. The bird park comprises of various must-see attractions such as the lory loft, African waterfall aviary, pelican cove, hornbill and toucan aviaries, world of darkness and penguin coast. An air-conditioned panorail ride is also available for one to capture not just the feathery friends surrounding this paradise but to appreciate the lush and colorful flora and fauna. The fee is an affordable $5 for adult and $3 for a child.

After much walking here and there, in an uphill and a downhill road, discovering and exploring different bird species; one can choose to dine in their themed restaurants that are strategically located in various spots. Gift shops abounded and carried unique souvenir items. More so, everyone was encouraged to visit and experience the joys of seeing many birds under one roof. Their Visitor Service Centre rents out strollers, wheelchairs, scooters and tiny xplorers to make the discovery fun and less tiring.

Every wanderer can also be a falconer - a program designed for you to learn to handle the mighty birds of prey in a sport once reserved for royalty and aristocrats for $100 to be enjoyed for 35 minutes. Comfort rooms for the able-bodied and disabled are all over the place. You won't have to worry and go looking for one when nature comes knocking.

We were blessed to be in Jurong Bird Park on that day. It drizzled every so often but a shade was easy to find where one can spend time and appreciate the beauty of the place. This awesome destination is worth every penny spent. Our eagerness were satiated with these beautiful species our amazing Lord has created!

  2. I have followed you now. Let's see - my blog is 7 years old - so really I don;t have all that many - some people have over a thousand being that old or even just one year old. I think you have to read others and write comments - see if it is fit and then follow. Just give it tome and get out there. Now I had someone make a blog button for me. Looking forward to you following me, reading your blog, and becoming friends. sandie

PS I would take the word verification off - it's really hard to read - and a lot of people won't bother leaving comments - just a suggestion.

  4. Hi Ida,
I would love to see those birds!!! And I'm dying to see penguins! I showed the pics to my kids and they asked me when we can go there and I saw in their eyes that they're expecting me to say tomorrow, haha! As if the park is just a few blocks away from our house. I just told them maybe someday when we have the money for leisure travel. For the meantime, let them enjoy seeing these pics. Thanks for posting, Ida! Have a nice weekend tomorrow! :)

  13. It's a beautiful place. My kids will love it! They love birds. They're afraid of feeding them though because of the beaks and the feet which has claws. But they'd truly enjoy looking at them.
