Time. How Do You Use It?

You and I have been blessed with the gift of 24 hours in our hands day in and day out. It goes on and on no matter what you do, where you are and whatever your circumstance is. Both the young and the young at heart have it and enjoy it at varying degrees. The youth would utter, "I have so much time in the world to relax, to have fun, to explore and to learn. The elderly on the other hand would whine and rant, "If only I had more time... but I am old, weak and fragile..."

It is disheartening that those individuals who are spending more time in their office and in business trips rather than in their own homes are starkly increasing. They miss important celebrations and milestones in their household's lives in the hope of making their career paths successful. They forget their parent's anniversary and sleep while everyone is making a countdown for the New Year.

The moment I get out of our house, I see the harried souls on the streets, walking fast to reach their places of destinations, hoping that time would somehow stop until they log in for work. I empathize with them... I was once a slave to my work, that's why.

There are many more out there that are gifted with all sort of talent but the saddening thing is, they are busy with their own lives and are unavailable. Their present preoccupation consume their time and forget to give back or spend a few precious of their minute to make the depressed smile, the confused hopeful, the irate contended, the vulnerable encouraged.

Still, there a handful who seem lost in time. They mourn forever over the demise of someone dear to them, they sulk in the bottomless pit after unsuccessfully passing the board exam, or lose their lives over prohibited drugs.

Making wise use of time is potent. Spend time with those who love you and are valuable to you. Allow time to heal whatever wound is hurting you and preventing you from moving forward. Permit the passage of time to help you grow, learn, discover and further unfold the best in you. Michael LeBoeuf wrote, "Waste your money and you're only out of money; but waste your time and you've lost a part of your life."

Tell me, how do you use your time?

  2. Hi Farida, I received a comment from you on my garden blog today. So, I decided to visit your wonderful blog! You are so correct in your musings considering how our valuable time is spent. Even tho I still have to go to work every day, I long for the days that I can just bask in the beauty and joy of life around me.

Your post is so meaningful, and, I love the photos and city animations surrounding your story. Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Love the images! I remember when I was young, time seemed to drag on forever. Now that I'm no longer young, it flies by. I'd love to be able to slow it down.

  4. Time is a priceless gift... and as you say it is no respector of persons. Everyone gets the same 24 hours.

I take my time seriously, and plan out each day, trying very hard to use it wisely and reach out to someone with a smile, a cookie, a helping hand.

Your article is so beautifully written, my dear, and that's a gift and a great way to share your talent and time.

How do you get a still photo to move... I was facinated with the umbrella and steam. Very interesting. I love it.

    God bless you too.

  5. Time is so precious. Once we spend it, we cannot get it back. An excellent post.

  6. Thank you for visiting my blog. I just wanted to say that there is always the possibility of making a quilt by hand rather than using a machine. One could start small and make say a table runner or a lap quilt. Have a wonderful day!

  8. Yes, lately life seems to fly! Where has the Jan of 2012 gone and Jan of 2013 is fast approaching. Great post by you.
How did you post these moving images in one shot. It is very interesting.

  9. Yes, Farida, we can certainly follow one another. Your first image, juxtaposing the stillness of the concrete station with the moving train is a very powerful one. I am definitely a 'night owl' rather than a 'lark'. Here in the west, we tend, I think, to believe that it is somehow better to get up early ... but I find I write better, more creatively etc. as the day goes on.

  11. Time can be our enemy or our friend. We all have the same amount of it and it is our attitude that determines how we feel about it. I can tell that you are "young" :-) I am "old" but hope that I don't whine and complain too much. I think there are whiners in all age groups. Getting old is hard...there are many changes that you have to learn to deal with and accept. For me, trusting God with my "time" is the only answer, and he will guide me through all of it. Thanks for visiting my blog and wanting to follow each other. You have asked me about following....I don't usually sign up to "follow" bloggers.....not because I don't like their blogs, but because I just don't want to do things that I feel let Blogger or anyone else attach to my blog. Feel free to visit anytime and I will try to drop in on your blog, too! You have a nice blog and I like your sunflower :-)

  12. Your blog shares a great deal of wisdom, some of which you have undoubtedly learned through some of the more painful parts of your life.

I enjoyed the pictures with just one thing seeming to move in each one of them. Is the photographer a friend of yours? It would be interesting to learn how she did that.

    Have a great day!...

  13. I love having the time I now have in my life...it is a gift. I love your photo images...that is a cool technique. There are so many talented people in blog land.

  14. is time the reason why old people wake up early and sleep late? people work long hours to earn money so that they can enjoy their retirement. but, when retirement comes, they are no longer as strong and energetic enough to enjoy it. how ironic.

  15. I have some amazing community home support clients who share their wisdom with me. They have worked long and hard on farms; nurses, 95-years-old; men and women who have worked with their hands and built a community. I respect them dearly. You should read about my friend, Kay.

  18. I have just learnt something about time from this post. I have to admit that I raced over the photos to keep on reading the text and when I started reading the comments, and Wanda talked about the umbrellas, I wasn't sure what she was talking about. Then I scrolled back and waited for a moment, and all was revealed! So you see, I hadn't taken time to really look at the photos. Very revealing!! Thank you and bye for now Jane

  19. Wonderful post, Farida! With my remaining time on earth, I wish I could accomplish the travel plans I have with my family. Just doing the things I love while I still can. Life is short. Gotta enjoy my time while I can!

    Have a great Monday!

  20. I agree with you that wasting time will definitely waste part of your life. we cannot turn back time so spend it wisely. Even I am working parent, I used to give time for my son. Especially during weekends.

  22. Now that I have a daughter, I can say I've stopped wasting my time on unimportant things. Most of my time is spent with family and my daughter. I've made a conscious decision to leave work at 5am and forget all about work matters until I'm there again at 8am. Great post reminding us that time, once gone is gone forever.

  24. Time can either be our ally or our enemy. If we use it wisely, then it is our friend, but if we squander it, it will always be to our disadvantage. Time and purpose should always go hand in hand if we are to make the most of this life.

  27. Thoughtful post about how we use time.

  28. I go by the saying " Time that you enjoy wasting is not wasted time" . So those moments when we laugh, the idle days with the ones you love, just hanging around with them is far more valuable that any amount of time that we spend purposely doing hard work and such:) great, inspiring post!

  29. Love the moving images with the post. Time and tide waits for no one. I believe in maximising the time I have at hand and doing the things I always wanted to do.

  33. With your post, I remember Ecclesiastes 12:1. Aside from our love ones, our Maker is most worthy of our time.

I love your writing style. The Lord blessed you with a talent in writing.

  34. Very well said. That's why in this very busy world I always find time to spend it with the people I love and do the things i love to do.

  37. It seems so long since I've heard from you. The picture with my Poem is my dear brother that passed away a month ago and my daughter that he used to carry around as a baby when she didn't want to sleep in her crib at night in the dark. (I mentioned them in small print at the bottom of the post; brother M and daughter B.) thank you for your sweet comments. They are wonderful people in my family and I love them dearly.

  38. Another great post Farida! :)

Two of the five quotes I have highlighted on my BC Blogger's Meme last week are somewhat related to this post http://etc.soundsfunny.ws/index.php/2012/09/bc-bloggers-meme-5-inspirational-quotes-i-live-by/

And I think that two quotes that came from two respected personalities, is my answer to your question of how I use TIME. :)

Again, great post which is a sort of reminder kind of post Farida. Inspiring.

And ohh, I love the creatives you used. I love how some portions of it moved and the rest remained static. I wonder where did you get those? :)

    Cheers!

  39. Dearest Farida,
Oh, the older I got, the moe I started thinking about the importance of the time☆☆☆
I remember that younger days time passes really slow, haha. I DO agree with you "making wise use of time is potent" (^_^)彡☆
Thank you very much for stopping by and hope you are doing fine!

Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

  40. I could use a lesson or two in time management. I always complain about not having enough time, but truth is, i just don't use it wise enough. Thanks for the lessons shared.

  41. Well said.. We should use our time wisely. The Lord will come in a blink of an eye. We should forgive those who have made mistakes and ask forgiveness to those we hurt. Let's live each day being fruitful.:)

  42. I love this post. Yeah, time once lost cannot be taken back. Actually a day is not enough for me. I have so many things and so all the things I want to do. But at the end of the day, everything should be put back to spend quality time with my family, especially my son. Yes, I am here to work really hard to provide the best for my son but I know more than anything else, he appreciates the time we are giving him. Seeing him happy when we are together is priceless.

  43. It hasn't always been this way, but these days I just try to be in the moment. I try to be light in the moment and bring joy to myself and others. Sometimes I still get sucked into a bit of frantic activity, but I try not to. Seems like all we can do is try...with God's help...
ps...I LOVE your hair cut in your little profile picture below.

  48. I'm sure I waste a lot of time, through the eyes of others, but I so enjoy just doing my own thing, no matter if it's just sitting and reading a good book. I must admit that I am totally mesmerized by the animated image you used....I took a good deal of time just watching it.

  53. I value hard work. Some people make the effort to do well in the career they chose and they are passionate about it. I am at awe at my friends who juggle career and parenting.

I believe that life is short so I try to squeeze in worthwhile activities as much as I can. However, I also believe in savoring the moment and not losing the experience. I think the time management is about finding balance where you can out in effort and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Thanks for this nice post, Farida!

  57. I've always put family first and naturally spend most of my time with them and seeing to their needs. I don't want to someday look back and regret not spending time with my children. I love that I get to personally see them reach their milestones. :D I do wish though that there were more than 24 hours in a day so I can get all my work done.
