Road Trip: Via SCTex

Admittedly the photos were not taken along EDSA (Epifanio delos Santos Avenue) or previously known as Hi-way 54. These are a far contrast from the congestion and busy thoroughfare that stretches from Caloocan to Pasay with approximately 2.34 million vehicles passing through it everyday.

A haven for every motorist

During a recent trip to San Marcelino, Zambales to visit an ailing relative; a unanimous decision was made to reach our destination via the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTex). And I instantly fell in love with the experience of traveling minus the countless cars I normally witness on the road.

A hill at both sides of the road; divided to give way for the hi-way

Every motorist would certainly enjoy driving through a scenic hi-way with barely a handful of vehicles on that glorious day! Imagine city life if the roads in Metro Manila was similar to this, right my fellow ManileƱos? Commuting would then be a breeze! No more rush hour and your 24 hours will be sufficient as you spend less time on the road! Meaning, there is enough me-time and quality time spent with our household too!

The rain about to fall from the clouds

With the brewing plan to rehabilitate EDSA, will the traffic condition ever equate to this? Hmmm... I sincerely wish.

Note: The photo's hue was due to the light tint of the car's window

  1. How you remind me of my private highway across New York State during the twenty years I drove for my job. 17, the Southern Tier, hundreds of miles through the Catskill mountains. So beautiful. Now it is a fairly busy interstate highway. Good to know such havens still exist.

  2. Some years ago, when NLEX was undergoing a major rehab, the traffic was awful. My 3-hr travel would take 5hrs....but after all the repairs, wow, no more bumps and I felt like the bus was gliding...that feeling that the tires are not touching the road hehehe. I felt kind of woozy at first but I'm used to it now. All the previous inconvenience was all worth it.

  3. I think the pictures are taken at SCTEx especially the on that cuts the mountain. It is tru, there are only few vehicles travelling this road.

  4. Traffic is a problem in my area also...I try to stay off the x-ways as much as possible. The traffic is getting worse every year. Your drive looked to be relaxing...if only they were all this nice

  12. I love road trips too! I never had one via NLEX though. The view is amazing. I love to see nature from the car window, rather than high-rise buildings!

  13. Nakakamaze talga magtravel dito. Very far from the scenes in manila roads. Parang wala ka sa Pinas. hehehe.
Just like the 2nd photo, they used to break the mountain just to build the road.

  15. Here in Mindanao most of the roads are under repair as usual because election is fast approaching, nagpapasikat mga pulitiko. But anyway, as long as the it will be convenient soon, I'll try my best to pass through these roads at present with less complaints. hehehe..

  17. We regularly traverse NLEX and SCTex going to Bataan. Driving thru SCTex is such a relaxing treat because I feel like I'm in Australia everytime with only the grazing sheeps on the vast farmlands missing along side of the road. Lol! I really love SCTex!

With regards to EDSA, sad to say but I don't see traffic improving even if it's rehabilitated. Thousands of new vehicles are adding yearly while old cars are still being allowed on the roads. :(

    Have a great day Ida!
