Today I am wiser... and a smarter consumer. Gone were the days when an advertisement would lure me to purchase the product I didn't really need. I admit, my occasional wants are sometimes hard to resist. For example, when I go to the supermarket, I hear my name being called by the goods especially in the junk food aisle, lol. Instead of getting a large pack, the smallest would satiate me and do me good. More so, it is enough to give me an instant lift!
As an employee, I value every centavo that passes through my hand to purchase even a piece of hard candy. I try my best to spend my hard-earned money within a budget and live within my means. As a wise consumer I recently compared prices of some commodities from various supermarkets you and I frequently visit. To my horror, prices vary - a lot!

With the above comparison, I wonder why the government has failed to implement a regulated price for all goods sold whether in the supermarkets, in convenient stores or in your friendly sari-sari store? Why are the brand companies allowing their products to be sold in different prices if the acronym SRP (suggested retail price) exists?

Always have to look around to be sure you get the best bang for your buck! Same thing with pharmacies I've learned...talk about a difference in prices...call to check on those! Wow!

ReplyDeleteWow Ida! It does vary! Thanks for sharing this! The supermarkets I frequent are PureGold, Save More and SM Supermarket. Between Puregold and SM/Save More, the latter is more pricey. But looking at your chart, Cherry Foodarama appears to have the lowest price. There's one in Pasig I might check that out. Thanks again!

ReplyDeletei used to shop in Shopwise too.... since that's the one nearest our apartment before.... although i know kinda kasing mahal nya si SM pero whatever il save compared with going to a cheaper groceries e mababawi ko lang sa gastos sa pamasahe and hassle hehehe :D

In my case, dito sa rural area, I do groceries sa maliliit na grocery stores and the price varies from cents to 5 pesos, kaso when I feel lazy, whichever the first store na mapasukan ko dun nako naggogroceries. hehe. You are indeed wiser today, I have the same decision with how I spend my money these days.

ReplyDeleteI observed that some of the prices in the supermarket is lower than the SRPs shown in some ads.
Those cents counts especially when put together.

ReplyDeleteCherry Foodarama gives the best prices pala. Just that it is more convenient for me to go to Puregold as it is just one ride going there. If I would be buying lots of stuff, I think I'd go for Cherry, but for few items, I'll settle for one that's nearer

ReplyDeleteHow expensive is gasoline there? Yes sis, I think they add up all the expenditures including the gasoline for transporting the product.
DeleteIt is much more expensive by a peso per liter . sometimes more pa nga. If hubby and I go to the lowlands, we gas up at La Union full tank.

ReplyDeleteIt's like that here, too. Various stores have different prices. Another thing they do is run a great special on a few items to draw you in but are higher on most items in the rest of the store. Smart shopper! :)
I usually compare prices too especially milk formulas. So far Save More is cheaper compare to other supermarket in the city. Pero hanggang milk lang ha. The rest of the items in SM Savemore are expensive compare to Gaisano.

Prices really vary among supermarkets. I want to shop in the store that is nearest our place, though perhaps it's a little bit more expensive than those farther. I just factor in the time and gas in the total cost.

ReplyDeleteWe buy bulk grocery items from Shopwise, the rest from Save More Supermarket. Prices of grocery items also vary between those two but the latter is just walking distance from our house and I don't need to factor in transpo and parking expense when buying just a couple of bagfuls of items. Still, you're right. Retail prices should be regulated.

ReplyDeleteWith varying prices like that, it's hard to just stick to one supermarket to buy everything. But, it's also not practical to go to a far one just to buy for a lower price.
