Luk Foo Cantonese Kitchen

Birthday celebration often equates to food and a simple get-together amongst the family. No matter what your social status is, the household never fails to end the day even with the simplest form of commemoration.

For the 87th birthday of my grandmother on May 10th, my cousins and I (eight of us in total) decided to treat her and the rest of the family to a Cantonese cuisine at Luk Foo, Puregold Araneta Center. It was akin to a surprise party for her because she thought that the clan will be dining at Chowking, her all-time-favorite restaurant (seriously)!

She was gaping in wonder while my Uncle led her to the restaurant with an alibi he had planned earlier as to why they were at that place. And as we saw her approaching, we began singing the "happy birthday" song merrily!

We ordered two set menus (two of the same dishes per table) amounting to Php3,680 per set that can be shared by 25 persons.  We heartily feasted on the following:

(1st row) beef broccoli with mushroom, hot prawn salad (2nd row) fried shrimp balls, birthday noodle (3rd row) kingdao spareribs, steam garlic fish fillet (4th row) yang chow fried rice, luk foo fried chicken and spinach seafood soup (not in photo).

My personal favorites were the kindgao spareribs, hot prawn salad and the steam garlic fish fillet but the other dishes were as tasty. We requested the management to replace the dessert (either buchi or mango sago) with yang chow fried rice. And we thank our good Lord for blessing us with our dearest grandmother who is the foundation and rock of our family.

  24. Would you believe? My hubby doesn't celebrate birthdays or any occasion with his family before. He was wondering why I need to always have a cake with a candle to blow when it's our birthday. That was the tradition with my side of the family. But thank God he goes along with it. Hehe!

I love the shrimp bals at Luk Foo, its food is yummy.
