All Smiles Despite The Downpour

Filipinos are resilient. No matter how bad our current situation is; we manage to smile, to joke around and to continuously look at the brighter side of life despite the daunting scenarios around us. Seemingly, torrential rains have caused many places in the Philippines to flood. And just before typhoon Maring poured, a sea mishap occurred in Cebu. Yet life has to go on just like the constant ticking of the clock.

Since my childhood days, I frequently bathed and played under the rain with my playmates and enjoyed every moment of it. Before the cloudburst, we would draw a huge sun on the ground to prevent it from falling. But deep inside I was wishing with all my might for a downfall, lol. And to this very day, my sentiments remain.

With thousands of people affected by this horrendous typhoon, I have no right to whine in any way; more so to be an ingrate. We are all fine and continue to eat regular meals. Most importantly, we manage to smile despite the downpour. Keep safe everyone!

  2. What a precious picture, and sentiment, too. Those little fellows love each other; the older boy is teaching the younger about kindness and protection.

  6. I used to enjoy watching torrential rains when I was a kid. I think serious flooding was still a rarity that time...It takes super storms to submerge places. I'd sit by the window and watch in awe as the heavens pour out water. But now when it rains, I become anxious, ever since Ondoy happened. I didn't wade in flood waters that time. I was safe although stranded overnight in the office. It was the aftermath that was heartbreaking.

  9. Filipinos are the happiest people in world. Even in my workplace, us Filipinos always manage to laugh though the workload is terrible; and that actually surprises other nationalities! ;)

  15. The one in the picture is just the same when we were in the province years ago. We used the banana leaf as our umbrella.

  17. Watching the news is really heart breaking. But seeing how our fellow Filipinos face such calamity is heart warming. Let's all pray that the torrential rain will stop. As of this moment, it's still raining hard here but we are fortunate that we are not experiencing any flood.

  20. Beautiful picture! I love how children manage little problems in their own little ways...using banana leaf and talking as they go walking..these kids are priceless. I also love to bathe in the rain when I was a kid. Fun!

  21. That's one touching photo, Ms. Farida. I love the rain because I get to be cozy and warm at home. But wishing for it to rain just for my selfish reasons is, indeed, selfish. Good on us who have roofs on our heads and warm food on our table. Our fellowmen is our responsibility. Let's be our brothers' keepers. :-)

  22. Kaya hindi ako nagrereklamo na binabaha kami, kasi kahit ganon, swerte pa kami kung itutulad sa ibang nawawalan ng kabuhayan at lahat ng ari-arian taon-taon. We are truly a resilient people, but I still feel like we should stop getting used to this. Something can be done to minimize the loss of lives and livelihood! Kung hindi lang nasayang sa mga gaya ni Napoles yung pera ng bayan, sana nagastos na sa mas makabuluhan at totoong flood control project!(sorry for the rant!)
