Being More

Life is too short for anyone to dwell more on the past, what is unpleasant, ugly, hurting and disappointing. The sad truth however is that we meet so many of these kinds. They continue to look at the closed door and fail to see the good things coming to them. Many more prefer to look at the murky side of life than the water half-full.

Failures, regrets and not trying hard are some of the things I've deleted from my vocabulary. Instead, I try to live in the moment, to give my best in all my undertakings and to stay optimistic at all times. These I have learned from my grandmother, who at 88 has lost vision in her left eye due to a failed cataract operation one year ago. Though legally blind, she manages to cope with her daily challenges and chores at home. My heart aches at the sight of her trying until she gives up because she is no longer capable of doing. Sometimes I hear her whine to herself out of frustration. But she always goes back to her old, cheerful self; inspiring others and making everyone happy.

It may sound a little foolish but risking, caring, dreaming and expecting a little more are means to make life meaningful. Do you agree?

  10. Speaking of being optimistic, many said if you find a glass half-full, you are optimist. But as a chemist's jokes we should use to see it always full. half water and half air. hehehe (commenting for www.chemistdad.com)

  14. Yes, I agree. For me, you cannot go nowhere if you don't have the courage to try and risk. I also love to dream because it makes me feel young and I don't know why, lol.

  17. Same with you, Ms. Farida, I get most of my inspirations from my grandma. She's actually more than a grandma to me. She's like my mom since she's the one who took care of me since I was born until who I am today.

  18. Ultimately, I think each person's journey in life is about making it meaningful. It is inspiring to find people like your lola who are still cheerful and happy even when there are personal challenges.
