A sun-kissed skin, the scorching heat, outdoor activities and the restless kids are some of the phrases I often associate with summer. Like my nephews and niece, I was overjoyed too whenever this time of the year approached!
So, hello summer!
This is also the time of the year when you can hone your child's (or even your nephew and niece's) reading skill in a fun way. You need not enroll them in expensive schools. It only requires patience, your time, a great deal of creativity and the right materials to prod them to read like a pro! I have enlisted some links below hopefully you'll find useful.
1. Starfall
Their phonemic awareness practice is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, elementary students, special education, homeschool, and English language development (ELD, ELL, ESL). It is an educational alternative to entertainment and motivates an atmosphere of imagination and play.
You can even click the specific word the child is unable to correctly pronounce and you'll hear it's proper enunciation. When you click on the pictures, you'll also see the illustrations move. Be sure to turn on your speaker for a fun learning experience.

I love the vast list of vocabularies this site provides. It is arranged alphabetically and there are many other activities to enhance the student's ability to remember a word. It also has a list of famous English songs children will love to sing.
Is a complete website to help your schooler enjoy the English language. From alphabet, phonics, stories and news; these materials vary from easy to difficult level. The stories are also wonderful to help the young ones with their comprehension skills. You can ask simple questions using the five Ws and one H questions (who, what, when, where, why and how) to extend the reading activity.
The temperature is undoubtedly increasing by the day. With these helpful websites, may the tots (be it your nephew, niece or your child) find their summer vacation more meaningful as they discover how fun reading can be other than basking under the sun!
