The happiest season in the Philippines has imminently arrived. And in less than two months, the exchange of gifts between our loved ones will be done (again) so it is always prudent to shop for items unhurriedly to save on our hard-earned moolah.
Last Thursday, I went out with my Aunt to start hoarding gifts for Christmas. To my horror, the mall was filled with many kids all dressed for the Halloween party! I wouldn't bring my child to such event though if I were a mom because receiving a piece of candy from a shop is not worth it (from what I've experienced).
I bought ten packs of cookies from Marks & Spencer to start with my haul. Because it is priced 25% less, I selected three types of cookies: All Butter Scottish Shortbread Fingers P112 (2), Chocolate Chip Cookies P157 (2) and Bourbon Biscuits P97 (8) that are all suitable for vegetarians and are reasonably priced. I have a few more people in my list to buy gifts in my next shopping adventure.
It has been a tradition since time immemorial In my family (father's side) to give each person a gift. Quite astounding, I know but I realized that this occasion is only done once a year and we need not really give a very expensive gift. What truly matters is the thought, right?
What gift ideas do you have in mind this Christmas and
have you started shopping?
have you started shopping?
A sweet gift, and good time to start.
ReplyDeleteI have started my Christmas shopping but I don't do as much now the kids are older.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely gifts, and tasty too. Because our family is also big, we give "thoughtful" rather than expensive gifts. Maybe a cute coffee mug with some homemade English Toffee, or a pair of fuzzy warm socks. Truly it's a pleasure to give.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tasty haul. I haven't started thinking of holiday shopping yet as we are in Thanksgiving month and food preparation is on my mind. My kids have specific requests and my friends appreciate cards... This year will be celebrated with much love and joy too!
ReplyDeleteIn terms of ideas, I use the holidays as a time to give back so I donate to my favorite charities and do more volunteer opportunities. I offer my help at a monthly soup kitchen venue and the holidays are special for the homeless and hungry people who come. Great post! :-)

ReplyDeleteMommy and I planned to give crochet items as gifts but because of too many orders, we cannot spare time for it. She is still looking for other gift ideas.
ReplyDeleteThe mall is really packed up during Halloween. I brought my son - when he was around 5 - for trick or treat at the mall and it was horrible. There were stores he went to and there were no candies ha. ubos na. so i never took him there na. I wish I could do my xmas shopping na rin...

ReplyDeleteFarida--You and your family are in my prayers today. Whenever I see big storms heading towards your country, I think of you. I pray that you and those you love are safe......Janice
ReplyDeleteI love M&S biscuits too. They go one sale sometimes, but with the products near expiry. I hope there will be a huge discount on new products too. I want to send them home for Christmas. :)
ReplyDeleteGift giving has never been really a practice with us when I was a kid. But we do get new clothes and shoes :-) Anyway, I feel good putting those colored boxes of gifts at home, under the tree...now that I have money to buy gifts for my mom and nephews. :-)
ReplyDeleteNaku it's good that you do your shopping na ate Farida. It's so hard to make habol for the last minutes. Sometimes prices go higher pa as the busiest seasons gets closer.
