I will forever be in awe of my parents' relationship - definitely imperfect but their strange quirks make them the perfect couple. They will be married for 44 years this August 15th. In frustration and despair, in the midst of turmoils and challenges; their love is palpable throughout the years!
I love you.
Thank you.
I’m sorry.
I trust you.
I forgive you.
I appreciate you.
How can we make it better?
I often hear them utter these. And sometimes even without saying a word, they understand each other. Perhaps these words are partly the reason why to this day they are together; when most couples are disagreeing, fighting or are even on the brink of separation. Let me share with you the other factors that make them a happy couple.
They fall in love everyday
When love is new, everything is vibrant and rosy. You experience butterflies in your tummy and even the magical, unexplainable phenomenon. Then it wanes because of work, responsibilities, familiarity, pressures from the environment. They find time for each other, go on a date, have quiet moments and reconnect despite life's hustle and bustle. They consciously focus on the endearing qualities that have made them fall in love in the beginning of their relationship which requires a lot of hard work and communication.
They choose each other everyday
Love is a choice. You cannot transform the other person to be better. Mature love will make you stick throughout the relationship no matter what. There is absolute contentment and joy, regardless.
They are accepting of each other everyday
Men and women are completely different. Through the passage of time they discover and realize. Irrespective of the differences, oddities and peculiarities in values, decisions, families, friends or even hobbies, it takes a great amount of energy to be accepting. Flaws, weaknesses and their past included. And this is possible if there is love prevalent in the relationship.
The importance of having Christ in the apex of the marriage is also vital for a long-lasting relationship. They laugh a lot together too. Similarly the passage, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (KJV) sums the essence of love:
"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."
Hope you find these helpful and allow yourselves to experience it with the right one! Below are photos you may find inspiring. Happy reading!
